Laser Blaze is a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser supplied in the UK by Marshalls Cosmetic Machines. It is designed for tattoo removal, including cosmetic tattoo and semi permanent make-up, and for carbon laser facials. What is the Laser Blaze and how does it work?
Laser Blaze is a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser from Marshalls Cosmetic Machines, a UK supplier of salon and clinic equipment. Q-switched means the laser releases its energy in extremely short pulses, measured in billionths of a second. These pulses break tattoo ink into much smaller particles, which the body's immune system then gradually clears away over the following weeks. The machine works at two main wavelengths. The 1064nm wavelength is used for darker inks such as black and blue, and the 532nm wavelength is used for some red and warmer shades. It comes with interchangeable tips, including a dedicated tip for carbon laser facials, and the spot size can be adjusted from 1mm to 8mm.
What does Bright Smiles Beauty use the Laser Blaze for?
At our Bridgwater salon we use the Laser Blaze for tattoo removal and tattoo fading, for example to lighten an old design before a cover-up. It can also be used on cosmetic tattooing such as semi permanent eyebrows and lip liner, which the supplier lists as intended uses. We also use it for carbon laser facials, where a thin layer of carbon lotion is applied to the skin and then treated with the laser to leave the skin looking refreshed. Tattoo removal is gradual. The number of sessions depends on the size, age, colour and depth of the ink, and some colours respond better than others. Current prices are shown on our Fresha booking page.
What should I expect, and is it suitable for me?
Your first visit starts with a consultation covering your medical history, medication and skin type, and a patch test on a small area of the tattoo. Sessions are spaced several weeks apart so the skin can heal and the body can clear the ink. The treatment feels like quick snaps against the skin, and the area may be red, raised or tender afterwards. Some pinpoint bleeding, swelling or blistering can occur, and you will be given aftercare advice to follow. We cannot promise complete removal, as some inks, especially bright colours, may only fade. Laser treatment is not suitable during pregnancy, on recently tanned skin or with some medications and skin conditions.

How many sessions does tattoo removal take?
It varies a great deal. Size, age, depth and colour of the ink, and how your body clears it, all make a difference. Most tattoos need a course of sessions spaced several weeks apart, and your therapist will give you a guide at your consultation.
Can every colour be removed?
Black and dark blue ink usually respond best. Some colours, such as green, yellow and pale shades, can be harder to shift and may only fade. We will be honest about what is realistic for your tattoo.
Can you fade a tattoo before a cover-up?
Yes. Many clients have a few sessions to lighten a design so their tattoo artist has more freedom with the new piece. Talk to us and your artist about how light it needs to be.
Does it hurt?
Most people compare it to an elastic band snapping against the skin. Sessions on small tattoos are quick. Your patch test lets you experience the sensation before a full session.
